An individual who has Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance, and is consuming gluten, may experience oral health issues including, but not limited to ...

  • Enamel Defects

  • Recurrent Ulcers (Canker Sores)

  • Delayed Eruption

  • Cheilosis (cracking of skin at corners of mouth)

  • Oral Lichen Planus (white and red patches on cheeks, tongue, and gums)

  • Atrophic Glossitis (tongue that has fewer/no taste buds, is smooth, with diminished taste)

This article was written to provide dentists with information which may be helpful in identifying patients of theirs who have undiagnosed Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance because their patient may have no other symptoms!

If you are struggling with any oral health issues, obviously see a dentist but keep gluten in mind, your ONLY sign of one of these conditions could be just those pesky canker sores!
